HINDMAN: Watkins Glen Debrief

Nothing ever ceases to amaze me more than the emotional rollercoaster that is motorsport.

Sometimes, it’s not just day by day or even session to session. Occasionally I find that perspective and attitude can change all within one lap, and that could be the difference between a win, podium, or even finishing a race.

This past weekend at Watkins Glen International was one such weekend, and I’ll be brutally honest here, it was a rollercoaster straight from the start.

The whole Prestige Performance/Wayne Taylor Racing squad was more than ready to get back at it after just about nine weeks off.

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca was the first-ever race in the Blancpain Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Championship for Craig and me, so we were certainly hungry to improve upon some excellent results that we had achieved in the beginning of May.

We both knew that we still had much to learn about the car, and that was our main focus throughout practice.

Unfortunately, there were some fairly lengthy red flags in practice for incidents (which if I’ve heard correctly, all drivers involved were ok) and that really took away from the amount of time we had to set a number and see where the cards fell for us.

At that point, all we could do was focus on building solid balance and making sure we had a car that could run the entire 50-minute race without experiencing any large scale tire degradation; luckily it wasn’t too difficult because of the beautiful new surface at Watkins Glen.

We maintained the same plan as we did at Mazda Raceway. I would qualify and start Race One and finish Race Two.

Qualifying was off to a great start as my teammate Shinya and I battled for pole position, but fortunately the No. 10 Prestige Performance/WTR Lamborghini came out on top!

Craig was in the very same position for the second qualifier, as he continued to find lap time and ultimately put us on the inside of row two for race two.

Race 1 was off to a great start as we took the lead coming out of Turn 1, pulling a little bit of a gap, and maintained that gap for my stint in the car.

The main goal as a starting driver is to go fast, but also preserve the equipment for the finishing stint… a skill I was very fortunate to learn during the 2014 CTSC season with Fall-Line Motorsports and John Edwards.

The Prestige crew executed an excellent driver change and then Craig was off to chase the leaders down. He put together a very solid and consistent race, where we finished 2nd overall and won the Pro-Am class; exactly where we left off at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Unfortunately Race 2 wouldn’t be so nice to us. Early on, just after the drop of the green flag, Craig had reported a soft brake pedal that continued to get worse.

Somehow he hung on to the thing for about four laps until it was time to pit and do our driver change.

As I was getting into the car, he had warned me that something was very wrong and please be careful… I more or less said “to hell with it” and pushed hard straight out of pit lane until, of course, it was time to slow down for the bus stop.

The brake pedal went straight to the floor and never came back. It wasn’t necessarily the worst spot to have this sort of problem, as it is fairly safe to go straight on at the bus stop and make it around turn five without any issues.

At that point I knew that there wasn’t a chance that I could race with that issue unless we could do a quick repair to the car on pit lane, which was not possible as it turned out.

I was fairly bummed that we had this problem, as Craig would have surely been chasing the leaders closely during his stint, giving us the opportunity to fight for the overall victory. Either way, it’s just a part of racing and we will move on.

With that said, a massive congratulations to Shinya and his double win weekend and a huge thank you as well to the entire Prestige Performance/WTR squad for their effort up to, and throughout the weekend.

It is no coincidence that hard work and long hours by everybody results in luck.

So, to round this whole thing up, I call racing an emotional rollercoaster because you can and will experience the extreme highs to the devastating lows all within one day.

For example, this weekend was the second of five total IMSA events where I was, and will be, running back and forth between two cars, two teams, and two championships.

The GS race on Saturday was the third win of the year for Cameron Cassels, Bodymotion Racing, the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport, and myself.

It was only a matter of about two hours between the time we were standing in victory lane with our Porsche to the time I was bringing our Huracan LP620-2 Super Trofeo back to the Prestige trailer with 30 minutes still left to go in the race and no brakes.

That’s the way she goes sometimes…

PRESTIGE PERFORMANCE TAKES TWO WINS IN RACE 2 OF LAMBORGHINI BLANCPAIN SUPER TROFEO NORTH AMERICA

MONTEREY, Calif. (May 1, 2016) – Prestige Performance used quick driving and strategy to earn dual wins in the overall and Pro-Am divisions in Race 2 of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America season Sunday at Laguna Seca in Monterey, California.

New Automobili Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali spent the weekend in Monterey at his first Super Trofeo event, presenting trophies to the overall Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North American finishers and meeting several United States and Canada Lamborghini dealers, strengthening the relationship between the automaker and its evolving racing programs.

Shinya Michimi produced a breakthrough performance in the No. 1 Prestige Performance Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo representing Lamborghini Paramus, earning a 1.918-second victory over Corey Lewis for his first overall Super Trofeo victory.

“I’ve really got to thank all of my guys at Prestige Performance/ Lamborghini Paramus,” Michimi said. “They put together a really good car all weekend. We’ve been right on pace, and we finally really brought it out in the race. To have a good race car is really important.”

Michimi’s Prestige Performance teammates, Trent Hindman and Craig Duerson, made a spirited drive to climb from 10th to third overall and first in the Pro-Am division in the No. 1 Huracán representing Lamborghini Paramus.

Michimi, a Pro-Am championship contender in Super Trofeo Europe last season, took the green flag in second position for the second day in a row, following Madison Snow in the No. 48 DXDT Racing entry representing Lamborghini Palm Beach.

Snow had a clean start and gradually built a lead while Lewis and Michimi battled for second position. Lewis got the jump on the first lap, with Michimi following closely. 

At the 10-minute mark of the 50-minute race, a car went off course in Turn 10, leaving dirt on the track surface. Snow crossed the dirt and slid off course, opening the door for Lewis and Michimi. The two stayed within one-half of a second of each other over the next 30 minutes, but pit strategy decided the outcome.

Michimi pitted early while Lewis stayed out, trying to extend his lead. Once Lewis pitted, Michimi laid down some quick laps to come out in front once the field cycled through the mandatory pit stops.

After taking the lead, Michimi managed the race and his tires to win.

“After the pit stop, our guys did a really good job timing it perfectly, and we were able to get out in front and give me a good lead,” Michimi said. “From there, it was just kind of timing things. I didn’t want to push too hard and kill the tires. It was just keeping the gap at a safe distance.”

James Sofronas finished fourth overall and second in the Pro-Am division for his third podium finish of the weekend after finishing third overall and first in Pro-Am in Race 1 in the No. 14 GMG Huracán representing Lamborghini Newport Beach.

The TRG-Lamborghini duo of James Davison and Derek DeBoer rounded out the Pro-Am podium, finishing third in their series debut weekend in the No. 66 Huracán representing Lamborghini Los Gatos.

Damon Ockey was the top Amateur finisher, improving his second-place finish from Race 1, in the No. 09 US RaceTronics Lamborghini representing Lamborghini Calgary.

The father-son duo of Jim and Josh Norman found the podium for the first time this season with a second-place finish in the Amateur division in the No. 71 Change Racing entry representing Lamborghini Carolinas. Rob Hodes rounded out the Amateur podium in the No. 51 DAC Motorsports machine representing Lamborghini Palm Beach with his second third-place finish of the weekend.

Ross Chouest swept the new Lamborghini Cup division, earning his second win of the weekend in the No. 3 DXDT Racing entry representing Lamborghini Dallas. Shawn Lawless was the second-place finisher in the division in the No. 27 Dream Racing Motorsports entry representing Lamborghini Dallas.  eXclaim Racing/Migliore Motorsports’ Will James rounded out the podium finishers in the No. 11 Super Trofeo representing Lamborghini Paramus.

The next Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America event will be June 29-July 1 at Watkins Glen International.

The weekend at Laguna Seca is a part of the worldwide race action for the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championship, which continues to reach new levels of success at every round in Europe, North America and Asia.

The two races in North America followed the season opening races in Europe last weekend at Monza, Italy. The next race for the European series will be June 24-26 at Paul Ricard in France. Super Trofeo Asia will open its season May 20-22 in Shanghai.

Lamborghini and Blancpain provided world-class hospitality this weekend for clients and guests of Lamborghini dealers. Guests also participated in the IMSA Hot Lap Experience, high-speed rides around the circuit in a Lamborghini.

POST-RACE QUOTES: 

SHINYA MICHIMI (No. 1 Lamborghini Paramus, winner): “I’ve really got to thank all of my guys at Prestige Performance/Lamborghini Paramus. They put together a really good car all weekend. We’ve been right on pace, and we finally really brought it out in the race. To have a good race car is really important. We also seem to have a really good qualifying car, getting P2 in both races. So I’ve really got to thank them. They’ve had a lot of hard work over the winter. Big ups to them. The race was quite interesting. I lost a position on that first lap. I just didn’t have the front tires up to temperature where I wanted them. Corey (Lewis) got by me, and I noticed him and Madison (Snow) were pushing really hard. And I know this is a 50-minute race, not a 10-minute race. So I just decided to keep the gap level at one or two seconds to them so I could battle them at the end. And sure enough, I think they started losing their tires mid-race, and I started to gain up on Corey. After the pit stop, our guys did a really good job timing it perfectly, and we were able to get out in front and give me a good lead. From there, it was just kind of timing things. For us, it was just about how we can continue improving our car, our driving and overall strategy because this is a lot different of a racing scenario than either of us has encountered. It’s interesting. It’s a learning curve, for sure. We’re excited. We’re happy. We just need to keep the momentum going. A huge thank you to everyone from Prestige for all the hard work.” (About managing traffic while chasing and passing for the class lead): “It was tough because all of these cars are so evenly matched. There are some very good drivers out there. It does make working through traffic pretty difficult. But at the end of the day, you’ve just got to be aggressive and take some chances every now and then and put yourself in a scenario when you know you can get around the other guy. Just keep on pushing. The only way we were able to do that and take that approach was with the car that Prestige gave us.”

CRAIG DUERSON (No. 10 Lamborghini Paramus, first, Pro-Am): “Prestige has put us in a great car. The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America series has amazing cars. It’s a blast to drive. It was so much fun. I was smiling all the time. Trent (Hindman) and I are working really well together, and the team has put a good car underneath us. I’m just happy to be back racing. I just tried to run a clean stint and hand the car over to Trent and get it done.”

DAMON OCKEY (No. 09 Lamborghini Calgary, first, Amateur): “The race was great. The US RaceTronics team got a good car for me this morning. The track had perfect conditions. I started P7 overall and ended up P6 but first in class. Pretty clean drive. I had a few battles, but overall it was a pretty clean race. It was fun.”

ROSS CHOUEST (No. 3 Lamborghini Dallas, first, Lamborghini Cup): “I did a poor job on the start and restart yesterday. I was a little lackadaisical, left a little bit bigger gap than I should have. I got a really good start today. I was focused on getting off really good and minimizing the gap between me and the car in front of me. The car was running great, and it was a great race.”

Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport Sweeps Podium At Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

MONTEREY, Calif. (April 30, 2016 Courtesy IMSA) – Trent Hindman passed Pierre Kleinubing with 30 minutes remaining and then held off a pair of CJ Wilson Racing teammates to score his second consecutive Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge victory in a podium sweep for the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport on Saturday at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Hindman and co-driver Cameron Cassels made it two in a row in the No. 12 Bodymotion Racing Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport, with Porsche’s new turnkey race car taking the top three positions on the Grand Sport (GS) podium.

“To be honest, I was watching my mirrors a bit which is something I shouldn’t admit,” said the 20-year-old Hindman after scoring his fifth career GS victory. “The CJ Wilson guys are really fast and were tough to hold off. Cameron put in a great stint and didn’t make any mistakes, and our Porsche GT4 was amazing today.”

Marc Miller and TOTAL Pole Award winner Danny Burkett finished second in the No. 33 CJ Wilson Racing ONE Capital Management/Motor Oil Matters Cayman, with Miller coming up short by 0.510 seconds in a last-lap charge to catch Hindman. Third were teammates Tyler McQuarrie and Till Bechtolsheimer in the team’s No. 35 entry.

Point leaders Billy Johnson and Scott Maxwell took fourth in the No. 15 Multimatic Motorsports Ford Shelby GT350R-C, followed by Rob Ecklin and Al Carter in the Automatic Racing No. 99 Invisible Glass/Rogue Engineering/Red Glare Records Aston Martin Vantage, and the Compass360 Racing No. 76 Shelby of Kleinubing and Paul Holton.

McCumbee, McAleer Stop Teammate Carbonell, Extend Freedom Autosport, Mazda Streaks

Chad McCumbee and Stevan McAleer extended Mazda and Freedom Autosport’s streak to six consecutive Street Tuner (ST) victories at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The 2015 ST champions won for the first time in 2016 in the No. 25 ModSpace Mazda MX-5. McAleer took the checkered flag 4.842 seconds ahead of teammate Andrew Carbonell, ending his three-race victory streak at the track in the No. 26 SemperFiFund.org Mazda MX-5 started by Liam Dwyer.

McCumbee started third and was involved in a terrific hour-long fight for the lead with TOTAL Pole Award winner James Clay in the No. 84 BimmerWorld Racing OPTIMA Batteries BMW 328i, and Chad Gilsinger in the No. 93 HART Honda Civic Si. McCumbee passed Gilsinger to finally take the lead on the 33rd lap, and then joined McAleer in leading all but one of the remaining circuits.

“I was thinking to myself that it had to be a great show,” McCumbee said. “We were going back and forth, and those guys were working really hard. Then it was time to go, and I had to be a little aggressive and throw it in there to get the lead. At the end of the day, the Mazda was the easiest on the tires, and the best car for this race.”

Eric Foss took third in the No. 56 Murillo Racing/Mosing Motorcars Porsche Cayman started by Jeff Mosing. Foss passed Tyler Cooke in the No. 84 BMW started by Clay on the final lap. Gilsinger and Cameron Lawrence finished fifth.

NOTEBOOK

•           Unofficially, Billy Johnson and Scott Maxwell extended their lead in the GS standings to nine points over Danny Burkett and Marc Miller, 95-86. Paul Holton and Pierre Kleinubing entered the race in second but dropped to third with 85 points.

•           Sebring winners Sarah Cattaneo and Owen Trinkler entered the race leading the ST standings, but unofficially fell back to fifth with 73 points after struggling throughout the race with electrical issues. Chad Gilsinger took over the lead with a fifth-place finish, giving him 82 points compared to 78 for Nick Galante/Spencer Pumpelly and Chad McCumbee/Stevan McAleer. Third-place finisher Eric Foss now has 75 points.

•           Mazda now has seven ST victories at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The last non-Mazda ST victory was recorded by Turner Motorsport in 2009, with Will Turner and Don Salama behind the wheel of a BMW 328.

•           Christian Szymczak turned in the fastest ST lap of the race on the 68th lap, 1:40.718, shortly after taking over for Cavan O’Keefe in the No. 34 Alara Racing Mazda MX-5. Team regular Justin Piscitell drove for Murillo Racing, subbing for Brent Mosing, who is recovering from an illness.

•           The race was slowed twice by caution. The first yellow waved at the 25-minute mark for Michael Johnson, who lost power in the No. 54 JDC/Miller Motorsports BMW 228i. The final caution was at the one-hour, 47-minute mark, when Tyler Stone pulled off course entering the Corkscrew in the No. 7 Rebel Rock Racing Borla/Urban Grid Porsche Cayman.

•           FS1 will replay the race broadcast on Sunday, May 8, at 8 a.m. ET.

The next race for the Continental Tire Challenge will be the Continental Tire 150 at Watkins Glen International on Saturday, July 2.

Prestige Performance has confirmed a return to the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America series with an all-new driver lineup for its pair of Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeos.

IMSA rising star Trent Hindman is set for a full-season campaign alongside Craig Duerson in the No. 10 car, which will be entered in the Pro-Am class, with Shinya Michimi set to take over the No. 1 entry in Pro.

Hindman, the 2014 Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge champion, is coming off another strong season in GS class competition, scoring a win alongside Ashley Freiburg in last year’s season finale at Road Atlanta.

Two-time Super Trofeo North America champion Kevin Conway, as well as former Formula One driver Enrique Bernoldi will not return to the team, following a strong debut season that included two Pro category wins and a second place finish in the drivers’ championship.

Prestige will again partner with Wayne Taylor Racing for operational and logistical support for the program.

The fourth season of Super Trofeo North America kicks off at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on April 29-May 1.

Bodymotion Racing Takes First Win for Cayman GT4 Clubsport

Trent Hindman and Cameron Cassels won Friday’s Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge Sebring 150, in Bodymotion Racing’s new Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport, marking the first international victory for the new Cayman.

Scott Maxwell had led the Grand Sport field for the first part of the race, in his Ford Shelby GT350R-C, but a slow pitstop denied the Multimatic Motorsports the victory, and instead Maxwell and Billy Johnson finished second.

Hindman passed Matt Plumb for the lead out of turn 17 with half an hour on the clock, and came home to finish 13.484 seconds in the lead. Matt and Hugh Plumb finished third in the Rum Bum Racing Porsche 997, behind Multimatic.

Bodymotion’s victory comes after the team missed the season-opening BMW Performance 200 at Daytona in January. It was Hindman’s first race in a Porsche, while only the second IMSA start for Cassels.

“Never in a million years did I think we could pull off a win in the first race for our new Clubsport,” said Hindman. “We have to keep our foot on the gas and hopefully we can keep this result going forward.”

Paul Holton and Pierre Kleinubing for Compass360 Racing, and Tyler McQuarrie with Till Bechtolscheimer for CJ Wilson Racing completed the top five finishers in Grand Sport.

CRG-I Do Borrow won in Street Tuner, with Sarah Cattaneo and Owen Trinkler behind the wheel of its Honda Civic Si. Trinkler assumed the lead with 55 minutes of the two hours, thirty minutes race remaining.

At the start, it had been Chad Gilsinger leading for HART in a similar Civic Si, but he finished second in the car he shares with Michael Valiante.

In third position at the line was the BimmerWorld Racing BMW 328i driven by Tyler Cooke and James Clay. The car lost its pole position to an engine change after qualifying, so started at the back. “We didn’t like one of the cylinders, so we decided to change engine even through it meant moving to the back,” said Clay. 

Cattaneo, who started 14th, is the most experienced female driver in CTSC. She now joins Ashley Freiberg as the leading female winner in the series, with two victories. Meanwhile, this is Trinkler’s sixth win, and he sits second on the list of most series starts, at 119.

“We were under the radar all week, and we barely cracked the top five at any time,” Trinkler said. “It was all about being consistent. We worked all week concentrating on longer runs on older tires, and if you look back at the lap times, you’ll see our car barely moved a second all weekend and during the race.”

Both the Murillo Racing Porsche Cayman of Jeff Mosing, and Liam Dwyer’s Freedom Autosport Mazda MX-5, pitted early-race from the ST win contention. The Porsche had a damaged gear linkage cable, while the Mazda suffered from suspension damage.

Steven McAleer and Chad McCumbee finished fourth in the #25 Freedom Autosport Mazda, while Jason Rabe and Devin Jones’ Bodymotion Cayman was fifth in ST

A single full course caution came out during the race, when Sam Adams went off track mid-race in his Rebel Rock Racing Porsche Cayman. On the final lap, Mark Pombo collided with Valiante. This didn’t impact Valiante’s finishing position of second, but did damage Pombo’s MINI JCW.

The next Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge race will be at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on April 30.

Hindman: “I’m a Very Lucky Guy for What I’ve Got”

In December, Trent Hindman had no ride, no budget, and no prospects.

Two months later, he was standing in victory lane in Sebring after claiming the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport’s maiden win with co-driver Cameron Cassels.

It’s been a wild ride for the 20-year-old New Jersey native, a former BMW Junior driver.

Now armed with a full-season contract with Bodymotion Racing to contest the full Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge season, plus a deal to run the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America series with Prestige Performance, Hindman believes he has found the continuity he’s been searching for his entire career.

That career began racing dirt bikes in the Northeast at the age of four. From there he transitioned to karting and into the junior single-seater formulae in the U.S, Canada, and Europe.

Despite some success, including the 2011 Team USA Scholarship and a fifth-place result in USF2000 in 2012, Hindman saw the doors to the open-wheel world close on him for very familiar reasons.

“For us moving forward and looking at the big picture, my parents and I realized that the open-wheel route wasn’t the most feasible for me,” Hindman told Sportscar365.

“Not because of results, but because of budget. It’s very expensive if you aren’t constantly winning your way up, and that’s a very tough thing to do.”

Instead, he went sports car racing in 2013, first in SCCA competition, then with a partial-season deal with Fall-Line Motorsports.

Paired with Charles Espenlaub, Hindman finished on the podium at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and qualified his car on pole in the season-finale at Lime Rock Park.

“It was a good dynamic from the get go, and we were able to get a program together with them for 2014 to run,” he said.

Hindman was teamed with John Edwards for the full 2014 season, but getting the deal to line up required some sacrifice.

“Our existing partners were pretty worn out from supporting us from the early days in karting,” he said.

“My parents actually sold their house so that we could run GS. That was a massive, massive, massive commitment from them.”

Their commitment put Hindman in position to win the 2014 Continental Tire Challenge GS championship, and his career seemed poised to take off from there.

“I was fortunate to be a part of the BMW Junior program for all of 2015,” Hindman said.

“I was invited for a series of physical tests and the shootout that they put on, and was one of the final four guys that they brought on for the year.

“I got to run the 24 hours of Zolder which was a great learning experience. Got to run the 12 Hours of Brno as well, and we ended up winning.

“After that, unfortunately I found out I wouldn’t be a BMW Motorsport junior again, and I really had no more involvement with BMW.”

That news came late in the off-season in December. Only at the 11th hour did the deal with Bodymotion come together, in addition to the chance to race in Super Trofeo.

“Two months ago I thought I’d be going to school and I’d be a spectator, but now I find myself with an overload of work!” said Hindman, who will also be coaching Team Pelfrey’s USF2000 drivers this year.

“I can’t complain because I look back and I see a load of guys that are still pounding the pavement, looking for something to drive.

“And these are guys that are more than deserving of a ride. For a short time there, I knew what that was like, and got a crash course in how the business of racing works in all reality.”

The Bodymotion team missed the Continental Tire Challenge season opener at Daytona — Cassels had family commitments — but Hindman and Cassels showed the paddock that they are a championship contender with the win at Sebring.

“We were never expecting a result like the one we got [at Sebring], but either way I’m just happy because we know we have more to go development-wise between myself, Cameron, and the car,” Hindman said.

BMW Motorsport Junior Hindman Finishes 2015 Season in the Strongest Way

Oct. 13, 2015 — The 2015 racing season could not have ended better for BMW Motorsport Junior Trent Hindman. On October 2, the 20-year old co-drove the No. 46 Fall-Line Motorsport BMW M3 to the overall victory in the season-ending Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge race at Road Atlanta. It was the first win of the year for Hindman and Ashley Freiberg. After winning the Grand Sport class driver’s title last season as Fall-Line’s starting driver (co-driver John Edwards), the Road Atlanta win was his first as the closing driver and the race ran on one of the wettest weekends on record.
“This was the most challenging race I had to finish all year,” said Hindman. “The track conditions were so bad, it was unbelievably wet and I was hydroplaning everywhere.”
Immediately after the race Hindman was off. Back to England for a few days at the I Zone simulator at Silverstone before heading to the Czech Republic and the Brno Circuit for the October 10th 12-hour race with his fellow BMW Motorsport Juniors Victor Bouveng, Nick Cassidy and instructor Dirk Adorf. Driving the No. 174 Walkenhorst Motorsport BMW M235i Racing, the quartet did not disappoint, winning the SP3 class against faster competitors.
Hindman continued, “I cannot thank everybody at BMW Motorsport enough for giving me the incredible opportunity to drive with Dirk, Nick, Victor, and Louis (Zolder 24). We knew winning would be a challenge because of how fast the other cars in the SP3 class are, but the brilliant strategy and hard work by the whole Walkenhorst Motorsport crew along with very clean, consistent driving is what did it for us. I was honored to just have the chance to be an American racing overseas while flying the BMW colors at the same time. My first win in Europe and hopefully not the last!
The CTSC race from Road Atlanta will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1 on Oct. 18 from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. ET.

FALL-LINE WINS CTSC SEASON-ENDER IN WILD FASHION

Buffalo Grove, IL (October 5, 2015)- Fall-Line Motorsports drivers Ashley Freiberg and Trent Hindman finally found themselves in victory lane in 2015 as they won the last race of the year in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series in their BMW M3. The race was a mix of conditions from damp to drenched but Hindman was able to hang on and took the checkered flag just 1.1 seconds ahead of 2nd place.
Freiberg started the race in eighth position as qualifying was rained out and the grid was set by points. The team opted to start on dry tires believing a dry line would appear as the rain had stopped, but as the green fell so did the rain. Ashley drove a great stint but the rain persisted so they had to switch to wets after just seven laps.  Ashley then drove a sensational stint as she fought to remain on the lead lap. Under the next yellow, around the 35 minute mark, the team opted to pit again for fuel only. Ashley then moved up

to P2 in transitional conditions before coming in for a driver change. Hindman took on two rain tires and fuel as the rain continued and in “horrid conditions” Trent marched to the front and a lead he would never relinquish. Under intense pressure and with poor visibility Trent brought the Fall-Line Motorsports BMW to victory lane after 2.5-hours of intense racing in very changeable conditions. He held off Robin Liddell and brought the team their first victory of the year to end an up-and-down season.
The returning GS champions finish P8 this year in overall standings after not being classified in 2 events due to not meeting minimum driver time.

I honestly had no idea that I had gotten us up to second place before handing the car to Trent, I was just on a mission to pass as many cars as possible! We as a team were all making huge risks, including myself with some of the sketchy passes I was making in the highspeed esses in the rain, but I knew I had to put it all on the line to have a shot at the win. Great job by the crew with their flawless pit stops and strategy, and to Trent who held off Robin for the last hour of the race! I am so glad that we could give BMW, IHG Rewards Club, Fall-Line Motorsports, and Trim-Tex the results they deserve for the amount of support they have given us this year! I am just so thankful for everything and that they have given us the opportunity to do what we love and to do it well. Now I am focused on putting a ride together for 2016, so there won’t be an off-season for me!”

FALL-LINE HEADS TO SEASON FINALE AT ROAD ATLANTA IN CTSC

Buffalo Grove, IL (October 1, 2015)- Fall-Line Motorsports will compete in the final round of the 2015 Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge (CTSC) this weekend as part of the Petit Le Mans race weekend at Road Atlanta. The 2015 champion will be crowned on Friday, October 2 and sadly, the #46 Fall-Line BMW is not in contention to defend their 2014 Grand Sport Championship.
Drivers Ashley Freiberg and Trent Hindman have had a trying season but still managed to score seven top-ten finishes and five top-fives including two podiums in 2015. This race weekend could potentially be the last with the BMW M3 E92 chassis which has served as the race car of choice for Fall-Line in CTSC since 2009. The team finished second at last year’s race on their way to winning the Championship and the BMW has been historically very strong at the 2.54-mile track.

DISAPPOINTING FINISH FOR FALL-LINE AT COTA

Buffalo Grove, IL (September 23, 2015) – Fall-Line Motorsports drivers Ashley Freiberg and Trent Hindman were hoping to repeat the 2014 for victory for the CTSC team at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) this past weekend but luck was not on their side and the duo started and finished the race in seventh position. With only one race remaining in the 2015 season, time is running out for the reigning Championship-winning team as the series travels to Road Atlanta in just over one week.
Freiberg started the race from seventh position and was running eighth before pitting. Hindman got in the car with 1.5 hours remaining in the race and made it up to P4 with just 35 minutes to go. He was given a drive-through penalty for avoidable contact as he was chasing down the Camaros and Mustang. Track temperatures reached over 100 degrees and driving conditions inside the car were stifling. Hindman brought the #46 BMW M3 home in P7.
