2011 Skip Barber National/Race 3 &4 April 28-May 1, 2011 Alton, Virginia

Heading into VIR, I was really hoping for a podium finish after my disappointing races at Sebring. We started out really well, as both qualifying sessions saw us end up P3. I was very happy about that because I would be starting on the inside. Race 1 got off to a messy start because there was a massive crash further back in the field which sent a driver to the hospital and caused a red flag, delaying the start of the race. When we resumed racing, we raced for four laps and had a yellow flag due to another crash in the esses. By the time we restarted again, we were only able to race four more laps. Throughout the race, I ran in the top three but fell back to 4th with three laps to go. Coming to see two to go, there was yet another incident which brought out the checkered flag early. I ended up finishing fourth. I was extremely bummed because I knew I could have done better.

Race 2 got off to a much better start. I ran in the top four again for much of the race. All the drivers are really strong and the racing was close and competitive. I ended up P5 after some really good battles. I still wish I could have done better but I am still learning so much each time I get in the car. I think I definitely drove better here than I did in Sebring, so I’m glad I made an improvement. But I still have some work to do if I want to get on that podium!

As always, none of this would be possible without God, my parents, all the Skip Barber instructors & mechanics, Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development, Racelite Protection, Sparco, Jonatan Jorge, & Jim Altemus. I would like to thank them for everything.

Next up is Race 5 & 6 on Memorial Day weekend in Lime Rock Park. We will be running with Grand Am so I am really looking forward to that!
