WKA Dousman Race Report

June 25, 2008
Our team traveled to Dousman, Wisconsin for the Man. Cup Grand Nationals held June 13-15, 2008. Even though we weren’t able to bring home an Eagle, we still had the most consistent National event ever for us. The 64 team scored four top-ten finishes including two podiums! It was an awesome weekend.

The first race of our weekend was Cadet Final 1. We had a good qualifying effort with a 5th place in a field of very strong competitors. The Pre-Final didn’t go so well as we ended up 13th after I tangled with another driver when I tried to make a pass. In the final, the start was awful because my nosecone got stuck in somebody’s rear bumper. I stayed hooked on it until Turn 5 when I was finally able to break loose. At that point I was in dead last. I did my best to get back through the field and made it all the way up to a 9th place finish. Considering how it all started, that was a decent run.

Our next race was Yamaha Jr. Sportsman where we qualified very nicely in 5th once again. We had a solid run in the Pre-Final, staying in 5th place. However, we had to settle for a 6th place finish when I got passed on Lap 7. Just missed the podium!

Sunday turned out to be a pretty Happy Father’s Day for my dad. Things began to improve for our team. Cadet Final 2 saw us qualify strongly in 2nd place. We held 2nd in the Pre-Final against top-notch drivers. In the Final, we held on for a 4th place podium finish, so our day was off to a great start!

Our final event of the weekend was HPV Jr. Sportsman where once again, we qualified in 2nd position. The Pre-Final went well, as we ended up 3rd. In the final, I kept the Merlin in 3rd which gave us our second podium of the weekend and fourth top-ten finish!

Thanks, as always, to God, my Mom and Dad, Jamie Sieracki, Gary Woltjer, Wesley Boswell, Mike Doty and especially Steve Welk who helped me out so much this weekend. It was our first time working with Steve and he was awesome! Congrats to all the Merlin drivers who won Eagles and had great runs this weekend.
