USF2000 – Summer Vacation Over for Hindman

Wayside, N.J., July 31 – There are summer vacations and then there are summer vacations. While Trent Hindman’s senior year at Ocean Township High School doesn’t begin until September 5th, his open-wheel education picks up after a six-week break this weekend at Mid-Ohio Sport Car Course, for Round 6 and 7 of the 2012 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda.

“I can’t wait to get back into the car”, said Hindman from his Wayside, N.J. home. “I’m not used to being out of a race car this long. I spent a week in Florida with the Capes (Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing) a few weeks ago and spent some time around the cars, but there is no substitute for being behind the wheel.”

After a challenging start to the season at Sebring International Raceway in March, Hindman has reeled off three consecutive Top 10 finishes between St. Petersburg and Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis to climb to 7th in the championship. Now after a 10-week break, the USF2000 Championship finishes its season with a flourish of four weekends (9 races) in eight weeks.

“The rest of the season is going to be hectic; especially starting the school year between Road America and Baltimore, but we’re going to four great tracks so it will all be worthwhile.”

Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course

The Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda heads to Lexington, Ohio this weekend to support a twin-bill of the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge for the American Le Mans Series Presented by Tequila Patron, and the Honda Indy 200 for the IZOD IndyCar Series. Trent Hindman participated in a USF2000 test earlier this season at Mid-Ohio, and last raced at the track in 2010 with the Skip Barber Race Series.

“Mid-Ohio is a really cool, technical track. It has a mix of high-speed and low-speed corners and many of them are off-camber. The track always produces great racing for cars like these. It’s going to be a great show.”

Drivers hit the track the first official session of the weekend Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. Eastern for Practice. Follow the action with Live Timing and Scoring at www.usf2000.com/livetiming, and follow the action semi-live on Twitter by following @altemus_prime.
