EDWARDS AND HINDMAN FACE MORE ADVERSITY AT WATKINS GLEN IN CTSC

Watkins Glen, NY (June 29, 2014) – All started well for the sole Fall-Line BMW M3 for the Continental Tire 150 at the Glen earlier today as John Edwards and Trent HIndman started the 2.5-hour race in third position. Just before halfway, misfortune struck the talented duo when Edwards was forced into a situation by another competitor that unfortunately compromised the car. Ultimately, this contact caused suspension damage that led to a blown tire. The points-leading car took the checkered flag from pit lane while getting repaired and were classified P19 at the close of the race.

Hindman started the race and drove a masterful stint maintaining his starting position and pitting from P4 when Edwards got in the car. The team made a fantastic pit stop, which put Edwards out in P1. He made contact with the #9 Camaro driven by Andy Lally that bent the suspension on the left side of the car. From then on Edwards drove with a damaged racecar and was running P16, still on the lead lap when the left rear tire blew causing further damage to the left side of the car. He made a pit stop to get a new tire and repair as much damage of the fender as possible, but unfortunately the bodywork was so damaged that the new tire was rubbing and he was forced to pit again.

This race weekend marks the second in a row where the #46 has been plagued with ill fortune but the entire Fall-Line crew and both drivers know they have what it takes to win the GS Championship. Edwards was understandably very upset with the outcome and both be and Hindman are true competitors who strive for perfection each and every time they step into the racecar. There is still a lot of racing left in the 2014 season and rest-assured the #46 will be back in victory lane before you know it.

#46 Trim-Tex/ Cirocco & Ozzimo/ Atlas Acon/ DFL Interiors/ Fall-Line Motorsports BMW driver quotes:

John Edwards: “Most of what I have to say shouldn’t be said publicly, but it’s a disappointing day. I feel especially bad for Trent, who did a great job in his stint. I think we were faster on old tires than the Camaros so we could have won today.”

Trent Hindman: “Our race was definitely character building. We were so strong in the early stages of the race; it was really a bummer when John got hit. I’m still incredibly proud of the whole Fall-Line crew for all of their hard work throughout the whole weekend. Also, a big thank you goes out to partners Trim-Tex, Cirocco & Ozzimo, Atlas Acon, and DFL Interiors. Really looking forward to getting back at it at Mosport, where our BMW will definitely be strong!”

Michael Harvey, Fall-Line Motorsports Team Manager: “Very disappointed to meet adversity in this way, both John and Trent drove great races and we had a car capable of winning today. Fortunately we are still leading the points as we take the Fall-Line BMWs north of the border.”

The next race for the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge will be at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park on Saturday, July 12.

FALL-LINE MOTORSPORTS MAKES THE MOST OUT OF A TOUGH SITUATION AT KANSAS

Kansas City, KS (June 9, 2014) – Fall-Line Motorsports completed the fifth race of the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge season on Saturday at Kansas Speedway and came into the weekend with a 25-point lead in GS Championship standings with drivers John Edwards and Trent Hindman. Shelby Blackstock and Ashley Freiberg were back in their BMW M3 after missing the last round at Lime Rock Park. Edwards and Hindman came down with engine gremlins early in the race which didn’t allow for them to compete for the win, but they maintain the Championship lead due their diligence and effort with a wounded car. Freiberg and Blackstock had a great race but were forced to serve a lengthy penalty which ultimately took them out of contention as well. Despite the difficulties, the 48 car finished 9th and the 46 made it to the checkered flag in P16.

The #48 started the 2.5-hour race in P14 and Freiberg drove the first stint moving all the way up to P4. She was running lap times that were the fastest on track at the time, staying competitive and keeping with the lead pack. She was involved in an incident with Andrew Davis which IMSA deemed avoidable and she was given a penalty. Although the team had some lengthy discussion with IMSA the penalty stood and Blackstock had to serve it . The earlier incident penalty was served as a drive through plus 50 seconds which put the #48 a lap down. Blackstock put his head down and drove an amazing race, climbing his way back up into the top-10.

#48 Rytec High Performance Doors/ Starstruck/ Fall-Line Motorsports BMW driver quotes: Finished P9, Fastest Lap 1:22:497.

Shelby Blackstock: “Overall, I am really proud of the whole Fall-Line team. Unfortunately we got a penalty at the beginning stage of the race but the team did a fantastic job setting the car up and it was a phenomenal car. If we didn’t have the penalty we would have been right up there. I don’t know if we could have caught the Aston Martin but I definitely think we could have had a podium which would have been awesome for the #48 car. I am really proud of the team to overcome this and get a top-10 finish and I can’t wait until the next race.”

Ashley Freiberg: “The car was awesome so it was a lot of fun driving around people at the start. Andrew (Davis) and I had a battle going on and he caught a ST car that slowed up more than he expected which then caused Andrew to slow up and I just had nowhere to go. I was fully locked up on the brakes hard and got into the back of him. I feel that I did everything I could to avoid hitting him and I don’t know what else I could have done better. It really was unfortunate that they penalized us as much as they did, but what can you do. Onwards and upwards.”

The #46 car started in P4 with Edwards behind the wheel and it became evident immediately that there was a problem. Edwards reported that the car was down on power and he was losing position. Engineers tried to diagnose the issue with feedback from the cockpit and engine data, but were unsuccessful in repairing it. The crew made several attempts to repair what they could in pit lane without going behind the wall and the decision was made to keep the car on track and attempt to finish despite running on seven cylinders. Hindman got in for his stint and was extremely optimistic and positive about the decision to finish the race in what was a severely wounded machine. The engine was using more fuel than normal and Hindman had to come in twice at the end for a splash of fuel in what ended up being a fuel mileage race. The duo maintains the Championship lead by a narrow five points now but are confident with their chances and the races ahead.

#46 Trim-Tex/ Cirocco & Ozzimo/ Atlas Acon/ DFL Interiors/ Fall-Line Motorsports BMW driver quotes:

John Edwards: “Immediately I knew we had an issue. The green fell and I went backwards. It was tough to just maintain and lose as few positions as possible, and it was frustrating to be so helpless out there just driving around. The team did a great job and I know did everything they could to try and figure out if there was anything we could do and at the end of the day I think we made the best of an unfortunate situation. Trent did great out there. After my stint I went to the tower to spot for him and he looked really, really good. I’m glad we stayed out and got as many points as we were able and the fact that we still retain the Championship lead is a testament to this team as to our hard work and determination. Everyone will have an off-weekend over the course of the year and I’m still confident with our chances.”

Trent Hindman: “Obviously today was a pretty tough day. We weren’t making one hundred percent power and I thought our day was going to end pretty early because John radioed in and said something was seriously wrong. Usually when the car is running on seven cylinders that’s not a good sign. At the end of the day we were able to run the full two-and-a-half hours. I’m really proud of the job everyone did because it could have been much worse and taken us out of the points lead. We still secured points and are still right there and made the most of a bad situation. That’s racing, we’re not going to win all of them but we sure are going to try. A huge thanks for everyone at Fall-Line, they really worked their asses off to keep us going and I appreciate them so much. Also a huge thanks to Joe Koenig at Trim-Tex, my other sponsors Cirocco & Ozzimo, Atlas Acon, DFL Interiors, and the National Kidney Foundation for sticking with us year.”

Michael Harvey, Fall-Line Motorsports Team Manager:
“Championships are won by minimizing the damage on your bad days and although this was a bad day for the Fall-Line BMW’s it could have been much worse. As always I am so proud of the Fall-Line crew and their talent and desire to never give up. We again had really fast cars so it is extremely frustrating to come away with a small points haul but adversity makes us stronger as a team. I would like to thank Rytec High Performance doors for coming on board for this event. We now head to Watkins Glen to defend our victory from last year, typically the Fall-line Motorsports BMWs are fast at the Glen and we will be very focused on executing cleanly and bringing BMW another victory. ”

Next up is Watkins Glen on June 26-28.

FALL-LINE MOTORSPORTS SCORES 2 TOP-10 FINISHES AT LIME ROCK PARK

Lakeville, CT (May 26, 2014) – This was the first time that Fall-Line Motorsports failed to finish on the podium in the 2014 Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series as they raced at Lime Rock Park this past weekend. However, both BMW M3s competing in the GS category finished in the top-10 securing valuable points and extending their Championship lead with John Edwards and Trent Hindman, who finished 4th in yesterday’s race. Mike LaMarra and Terry Borcheller joined the team for the Lime Rock race, pulling double-duty as the raced in both the GS and ST races. They finished 9th in a successful result for the long-time racing pair.

Ashley Freiberg was on-hand to help out the team this weekend as she continues the hunt for sponsorship. She worked the signboard in the pits throughout the race and showed the team player that she is. Everyone is working extremely hard to make sure she is back behind the wheel of her Fall-Line BMW really soon.

The #46 car started on pole for the third consecutive race of 2014. Hindman captured the pole position in rounds 2 and 3 and Edwards inherited the pole at Lime Rock when qualifying was rained out. The grid was determined by points thus putting the #46 at the front once again. Edwards drove the opening stint of the 2.5-hour race and led every lap before pitting and passing off driving duties to Hindman. There was only one caution period in the entire race and this is when the #46 came to the pits from the lead. Unfortunately a miscommunication meant that the #46 pitted along with the 2nd placed car on the 2nd lap of this caution and this cost them track position. When everything shook out, Hindman joined the field in 7th when the race went green with just under one hour remaining. After a very strong drive and some great overtaking, Hindman made his way up to 4th place scoring the third fastest lap of the race. Hindman and Edwards maintain the Championship lead heading into Kansas Speedway.

#46 Trim-Tex/ Cirocco & Ozzimo/ Atlas Acon/ DFL Interiors/ Fall-Line Motorsports BMW driver quotes:

John Edwards: “Well, it was a good day for points since we finished ahead of the cars that are close to us, but I felt disappointed to not come away with our second win of the season. Our car was fast and Trent had a 17 second lead when the caution came out, but unfortunately we missed the call from IMSA that the pits were opening. Given that we were leading, there was no one ahead of us to follow into pit lane so we had to pit on the second lap that the pits were open, which cost us a lot of track position and ultimately our chance at winning. Trent drove a great stint to recover to P4 and keep our championship lead, and we’ll be ready to get back on the podium at Kansas.”

Trent Hindman: “Overall I’m very pleased with how our race went. John had a great opening stint and it definitely showed that we had a shot at getting a good result. The Fall-Line guys gave us an awesome car, and it was especially good at the end when we were trying to hunt down the leaders. Definitely a little disappointed at just missing out on the podium, but in the end it was a great points day for us and we’re still carrying a lot of momentum going into Kansas. A huge thank you once again to our partners Trim-Tex, Cirocco & Ozzimo, Atlas Acon, DFL Interiors, and the National Kidney Foundation. Really excited to get back at it!”

Borcheller and LaMarra pulled double-duty as they competed in their usual BMW in the ST category and also in the GS category since the two classes had their own race at the compact Lime Rock Park circuit. LaMarra had to start at the back of the pack since they didn’t carry any points into this weekend that determined the starting grid. LaMarra started in P25 but moved his way up to P17 completing a very strong first stint in his very first GS event before Borcheller got in the car. Borcheller climbed up to P9 when the checkered-flag fell, scoring a solid finish for the pair’s first foray in the GS category together.

Mike LaMarra: “We were happy to get a top 10 finish for the #48. The Fall-Line team gave us a really good car. We worked hard to overcome our starting position, but needed a few more positions early. In the end, we were happy with the result and had a lot of fun driving with Fall-Line team and in the GS field. We are thankful to the team for the opportunity.”

Terry Borcheller: “Lime Rock is a tough place. Starting toward the back of the grid because of the qualifying being rained out made it even tougher. Mike, myself, and all involved at Fall-Line gave it everything we had. One of the objectives for Mike was to get some experience in a GS car, and he stepped up as he always does. It was a great experience to run with them again, and we wish them well with their pursuit of a GS Championship.”

Michael Harvey, Fall-Line Motorsports Team Manager: “I am so proud of the Fall-Line Motorsports team, as again they put two very fast and consistent BMWs on the track at Lime Rock Park this past weekend. We leave a little bittersweet as a slight error in communication under yellow forced Trent to work a little harder than planned and although a better result could possibly have been achieved it is great to head to Kansas having extended our points lead.”

FALL-LINE MOTORSPORTS SCORES SECOND VICTORY IN 2014 DURING RACE 3 AT MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA

FALL-LINE MOTORSPORTS SCORES SECOND VICTORY IN 2014 DURING RACE 3 AT MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA

Monterey, Calif. (May 4, 2014) – Trent Hindman started on pole for yesterday’s Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix Powered by Mazda in his BMW M3 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. After he and co-driver John Edwards finished runner-up in the first and second rounds of the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge (CTSC) season, they brought home the “W” in dominant fashion to capture Hindman’s first victory in CTSC and Edwards’ sixth. Teammates Ashley Freiberg and Shelby Blackstock also had a strong showing and finished in the top-10 scoring a 7th place finish.

Hindman scored his third career pole position in qualifications and the 18-year old from New Jersey looked like a veteran in the opening stint of the race. He lost the lead in the early stages but was patient and waited for an opportunity to overtake Eric Curran in the #01 Camaro on lap 27 and bring in the #46 car for a driver change from the lead. Edwards got in and held off the #01 Camaro for three restarts and drove an impressive race to finally capture the pairs’ first victory together. They extend their points lead heading into Round 4 at Lime Rock.

John Edwards: “Well this was hard, all those re-starts made it hard. We made a big effort in practice to make the car good over a long stint. We knew that’s where we had the advantage over the Camaros in the race. But all those cautions kept giving them the advantage back because during all those cautions our tires would cool down no matter what you do during the caution. It was tough for us to weather all those re-starts but we made it happen and I couldn’t be more thrilled.”

Trent Hindman: “I am thrilled to see that all of the hard work everyone has put in has truly paid off. Getting 2nd two races in a row is definitely nothing to be disappointed in but John (Edwards), myself, and the whole team really wanted to get a win, and we did it. The Fall-Line guys were flawless all weekend. We rolled off the trailer with a great car but we kept working to make it better and better throughout the weekend. John (Edwards) had a hell of a drive during his stint and was able to remain calm, as the Camaro, Nissan, and Aston Martin stayed right in his mirrors the whole time. A huge thank you to our partners Trim Tex Drywall, Cirocco & Ozzimo, Atlas Acon, and DFL Interiors for all of the hard work and support towards the 46 team!”

The #48 driven by Ashley Freiberg started 8th today and the talented 22-year-old from Homer Glen, Illinois drove a phenomenal first stint. The race was plagued by numerous cautions but the few green flag laps that were available Ashley made the most of. She pit on lap 34 from P3 and co-driver Shelby Blackstock got in. He also took advantage of the multiple re-starts but ultimately the hard driving used up the tires and the handling of the #48 suffered. He crossed the finish in P7, which is a solid points day for the duo.

#48 Starstruck/ TRUECar/ Fall-Line Motorsports BMW drivers: P7 Best time: 1:36:877

Shelby Blackstock: “Today was a very close and tough race. All the cars were super competitive and some of the lighter cars had very good tire wear. In the end, it was a good performance by the team even though we ended up 7th. I can’t thank the Fall-Line team enough for all they have done for the #48 BMW M3.”

Ashley Freiberg: “I was still pleased with where we ended up qualifying in 8th. Luckily in the race I was able to stay out of trouble and made a few adjustments to my driving to get us up to third. Shelby (Blackstock) did a great job also as I know the tires seemed to fall out from underneath him toward the end of his stint, which is tough to handle at a track like Laguna. Glad we were able to bring us to 4th in the points!”

Michael Harvey, Fall-Line Motorsports Team Manager: “Another very strong team result for Fall-line Motorsports and BMW. I am so proud of everybody on this team for all the continued hard work and dedication. We have been consistently fast in 2014, as both drivers and engineers have worked tirelessly to develop our BMWs. After three very different tracks we now approach the hectic portion of the season staring in 3 weeks at the BMW supported event at Lime Rock Park. All four of our drivers deserve these results as they work tirelessly on improving themselves, their cars and the team, I cannot be more impressed by the dedication and drive they show week in and week out.”

Next up is Round 4 at Lime Rock Park on May 23-24. Tune in on May 11 on FOX Sports 1 to see a re-broadcast of the race at 10a ET.

FALL-LINE MOTORSPORTS FINISHES SECOND AT SEBRING IN CTSCC

Sebring, FL (March 15, 2014) – Fall-Line Motorsports looked to have the race win in the bag earlier today at Sebring International Raceway for the second race on the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge (CTSCC) series schedule. Trent Hindman and John Edwards started from pole for the 2.5-hour race and had a substantial lead on the pack for a good part of the race. They ended up finishing P2 when the race ended under caution. Teammates Ken Wilden and D.J. Randall finished the day in a solid P6 and series leaders heading into the Sebring event, Shelby Blackstock and Ashley Freiberg suffered a mechanical failure and ended up P20.

Hindman started off the first part of the race driving away from his competitors and built up a nice gap before pitting and handing over the reigns to Edwards. With a perfect pit stop and an unbelievably out lap Edwards managed to build a 13-second lead with just under an hour remaining when the track went yellow. The restart with just 30 minutes to go turned out to be the pivotal moment and Edwards got shuffled back to P2 when the field bunched up heading into turn one and Edwards lost the lead. He never got the chance to make a move for the lead as the race ended under caution due to a nasty wreck in the ST field, which heavily damaged the barrier at turn seven. This is the second race in 2014 and this finish makes 2 for 2 second place finishes. Although it may not be the top step on the podium, the #46 drivers take the Championship lead with today’s finish.

#46 Trim-Tex/ Cirocco Ozzimo/ Atlas Acon/ DFL Interiors/ Fall-Line Motorsports BMW drivers: P2 Best time: 2:17:137

John Edwards: “I hate to be upset about second, but it’s still hugely disappointing not to win on such a strong day. I didn’t have a great run on the restart,. I had to lift to avoid passing the safety car before he got to pit road. That gave Robin a great run, and then the #12 hit the brakes earlier than I expected for turn one and I had nowhere to go with Robin (Liddell) on my right. Luckily we came away with second and got the points lead.”

Trent HIndman: “It’s definitely disappointing finishing P2 after leading much of the race, but John (Edwards) did a heck of a job bringing it home. Coming out of Sebring with the points lead is definitely worth all of the hard work. Again, awesome job by everyone at Fall-Line Motorsports for giving us a great car all weekend. I also have to thank our partners at Trim-tex Drywall, Cirocco & Ozzimo, Atlas Acon, and DFL Interiors for all of their support.”

The #47 car was driven this weekend by veteran Ken Wilden and his co-driver of D.J. Randall. The duo started the race in 15th but made fantastic progress and finished in 6th.

Ken Wilden: “We had a great drive in the Fall-Line BMW and D.J. (Randall) ran an awesome first stint. We made a quick change on the pit stop to help handling and it worked great. I just wish we would have had the last 20 minutes under green to see what we could have done.”

The #48 started in 6th place today driven by Ashley Freiberg who, along with co-driver Shelby Blackstock, were the defending race winners from the season-opener at Daytona. They were also, naturally, the point’s leaders heading into this weekend’s event and had a very strong chance at a podium finish at the very least. Their hopes were squashed as the extremely rough track that is infamous at Sebring caused an upright to fail due to the enormous amount of stress the constant bumps over the 3.74-mile course. Blackstock made a remarkable save when the failure occurred at a high-speed corner and managed to bring the car in for repairs. Replacing the damaged suspension was a length process but the talented Fall-Line crew made quick work of it and got him back out on track to salvage as many points as possible.

Shelby Blackstock: “Today definitely didn’t go as planned. Ashley (Freiberg) said something felt weird with the car on how it was handling in the beginning. When I got in, the rear was unpredictable and very loose. Coming through turn 16 the left rear broke and nearly sent me into the wall. I luckily kept it on the track and came in for repairs. It was not how the #48 team wanted their day to go but hopefully we can have better luck in Laguna!!”

Ashley Freiberg: “What a bummer to have an issue like that take us from 4th to 20th, but hey, what can you do? I definitely felt that there was something going wrong from the start of my stint, but at that point there is not much you can do except drive through it. Unfortunate to have happened during Shelby’s stint, but what an epic save he had when it broke! Big congrats to my teammates Trent and John for a great drive today. Let’s go get ’em at Laguna!”

Michael Harvey, Fall-Line Motorsports Team Manager: “Another very solid day for the Fall-Line BMWs, although frustrating for the 48 car. This result is a true testament to everyone at Fall-Line and their dedication and commitment to this program. It is very satisfying to retain the points lead heading to Mazda Raceway and I am extremely proud of everyone at Fall-Line. I am so proud of our drivers, with a mix of youth and experience this team really works well together and they inspire each other to become better at what they do.”
