Monterey, CA (September 8, 2013) – Since arriving at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Friday for the promoter test day, the three Fall-Line BMWs have not been pleased with their results. All three cars struggled to get up to speed in the test sessions on Friday but did improve in yesterday morning’s practice sessions. However, much of the Continental Tires Sports Car Challenge GS field also picked up speed in qualifying which leaves the three Fall-Line cars starting 7th, 14th, and 16thfor the 2.5-hour race.
While qualifying was somewhat of a disappointment for the team, they have overcome much worse starting positions and know it is a long race. The cars will be good on long runs and will be consistent over the course of the drivers’ stints so the longevity and reliability is there.
Hugh Plumb qualified the #45 Eagle/ B+ Foundation/ Fall-Line Motorsports BMW and is the highest starting Fall-Line car in 7th position. Plumb was second quickest in the second practice session on Saturday but couldn’t find any more speed for qualifying in the afternoon. Carter will be driving the second stint in the BMW M3 and finishing the race before starting the Rolex race in the team’s GT car.
Trent Hindman drove the #48 Cirocco Ozzimo/ Atlas Acon/ DFL Interiors/ Fall-Line Motorsports BMW in qualifying and will be 14th on the grid for tomorrow’s race. The ABS went out in the #48 car early in the qualifying session so Hindman had to make the best without it, which obviously put him at a disadvantage. The driver combination of HIndman and co-driver Charles Espenlaub has been very strong the past three races they have driven together. Hindman will have to work his way through more traffic at the beginning of the race than he is used to but this young driver has the patience and skill to navigate to the front.
Mark Boden turned the 16th quickest time in the #46 Trim-Tex Drywall Products/ Fall-Line Motorsports BMW and will start there for the race. The #46 car is strong and both Boden and co-driver Bryan Sellers have overcome adversity in the past to come back and win races from mid-pack starting positions. Today’s race will be no different.
Team Manager Michael Harvey: “I am so proud of the Fall-Line guys as they never give up. After a couple of interesting days the Fall-Line BMW’s are ready to march towards the front. We have strong race cars as always and a long race in which to navigate our way forward.“
Next up is the race as part of the Continental Tire Sports Car Festival, Round 9 of 11 of the 2013 Continental Tires Sports Car Challenge will be held on Sunday, September 8 at 1p ET. A re-broadcast is available on Fox Sports 1 on Sunday, September 15 at 4p ET.
