Bodymotion Racing’s GS Car Finishes on the Podium While Its ST Car Is in the Top 10 At CTSCC Series Race at Lime Rock

LAKEVILLE, Conn., July 24 – The No. 12 Bodymotion Racing Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport driven by Cameron Cassels and Trent Hindman could have used a full-course caution flag in the late stages of Saturday’s IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge (ICTSC) race at Lime Rock Park.
 
Considering that 35 cars started the race and that Lime Rock Park is the shortest road course on the series’ schedule, that seemed probable during a 2.5-hour race. 
 
Although a yellow never waved to bunch up the field, the No. 12 still finished third overall and third in the Grand Sport (GS) class, giving the Ocean Township, N.J.-based team another podium finish, continuing the entry’s record of never finishing out of the top five, and earning more points for its drivers.
The No. 12’s sister car, a 2012 Porsche Cayman sponsored in part by VeriStor and Delaware Investments, finished ninth in the Street Tuner (ST) class for the second race in a row. Jason Rabe of Monticello, N.Y. and Devin Jones of Mooresville, N.C. share the driving duties for that entry.
 
Cassels, a rookie from Coldstream, British Columbia, Canada, qualified sixth in the No. 12 and was still in that position when he pitted for the driver change on lap 46. 
 
Hindman, of Wayside, N.J., started his stint in sixth, but a lap down. He set the car’s fastest lap of the race on lap 53 as he tried to get the lap back. By lap 71 he was third and on the same lap as the leader with one hour and 17 minutes remaining. He dropped back to fifth when he made his second pit stop on lap 93 with 55 minutes remaining, and then tried to do it all again. He moved into fourth on lap 112 when the leader pitted. He passed Peter Ludwig for third with 31 minutes remaining, but the gap to second was too much when time ran out.
Rabe started 16th in the ST class. He set his car’s fastest race lap on lap seven and had several stirring battles, including one with his co-driver from last year, as he advanced to fourth in class before turning the No. 31 over to Jones on lap 68.
 
Jones started his stint in 11th in class but after some pit stops and some passes he was ninth in class in less than 10 laps. He was mired in a bevy of similar cars during most of his stint though, and he took the checkered flag in ninth as the overall winning Mustang completed its 150th lap and three Mazdas took the ST-class podium finishes.
 
The race will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1 on a tape-delayed basis at noon EDT on Sunday, July 31.

Cameron Cassels: “I thought the race went really well. I can’t believe that it stayed green the entire time.
 
“Not that we were banking on a caution, but it certainly would have been nice to have had a caution with about an hour to go.
 
“Saying that though, for me it was a bit of a redeeming race in that we’ve had some great success this season and some great work in the pits, but we’ve also had some great luck this season too with some cautions helping us get onto the podium. But at this race on this bullring of a track where it was all green, we had to do everything we could – two drivers and the entire crew – to try to climb up onto the podium. 
 
“So for me it was a bit redeeming. As much as we love Trent and he does a great job, I like to help contribute too, and for this one I think it was really a team effort to get onto the podium.”
 
Trent Hindman: “It was a hot race. It was definitely warm but it wasn’t too bad in the car though. Overall you can feel the heat with the track condition more that anything.
 
“We were fighting to hang on for a long time just trying to keep the tires underneath us and not overdrive the car and not overheat the tires. Then again the Continental tires held up beautifully for us today.
 
“We just did our best to try to hunt down the leaders. Over the last couple races we’ve been lucky getting yellows that would bunch the field back up so we could make up whatever time we lost. Just through strategy or whatever, we would be able to make up some ground. Today actually it was quite shocking that we did a race at Lime Rock with 35 cars on track that didn’t have one full-course yellow.
 
“It is a sense of accomplishment for us to bring home a podium even more, especially for Cameron. He really did a heck of a job today. He did everything he could to stay on the lead lap, which he absolutely did. He had quite a margin to that point, so for his first time here at Lime Rock he did an absolutely beautiful job. 
 
“Ultimately I think if we did have a yellow we would have been able to fight for the win. The Bodymotion guys gave me a fantastic car today, especially over the long runs. But at the end of the day we have to be proud of what we did. It was a great way to rebound from Mosport, and we look forward to Road America.”
Jason Rabe: “It was an exciting day here at Lime Rock Park for the entire Bodymotion crew.
 
“We kind of got a handle on it after qualifying. The car had quite a bit of understeer, so I just had to adapt my driving style. But then we started picking off cars one by one. 
 
“At one point we were three wide and I shot up the middle, which was pretty exciting. This place is very hard to pass, so I just had to go for it. 
 
“But from 16th to fourth; I pitted in fourth place and handed it over to Devin. 
 
“Devin did a good job managing the car. It was tricky conditions for everybody out there. Our car definitely started to free up quite a bit, so it was more of a drift session out there.
 
“It was a decent points day to finish in ninth again. We have two ninth places in a row. Top fives or podiums are a lot better, but we’ll hopefully keep some momentum going into Road America.”
 
Devin Jones: “We struggled a little bit all weekend. Jason had a great stint and put us up towards the top 10. From there we got off cycle a little on the pit stops. Some people short-pitted a little and gained some time on us.
 
“It was still a solid run and a decent points day. Obviously we would like to be a little bit better than that, but we were just kind of on our own island there. We couldn’t really race anybody; we were just hoping for a caution. 
 
“We’ll take this and go to Road America and keep digging for the last stretch of the season.”
Michael Bavaro (team owner): “I think the boys did a good job with the 31 ST car. We started 16th and finished ninth, so a top 10 finish making it a good day for points. The car handled well. We struggled with it at the beginning, but we got it where we needed and both guys had two clean stints other than a couple little dings and dents. It was a very ferocious battle out there, seeing them go into Turn 1 three wide on quite a few laps. It had us nervous in the [pit] box, looking at Turn 2 to make sure they came out of it. So it was a fun race to watch, and we did well.
 
“Both drivers in the GS car did a great job. Cameron did a beautiful job. It’s his first time at this track. I hate to keep saying that, but we’re going to keep saying it because every track is his first time at the track, but he did an excellent job. His times during his stint were within tenths of the leaders. Everybody was running 59 second-plus laps, and he was right there with them. He did a great job staying with the leaders. 
 
“After the pit stop Trent brought the car up, as is his style; he loves to chase a rabbit, and he sure chased them down.
 
“It’s just a little surprising at Lime Rock to go two and a half hours with that kind of traffic without any cautions. There were a few incidents but none of them blocked the track. It was a very clean race. Had there been a caution it would have been kind of a different story; we love to see Trent get up there and fight it out with the boys, but he closed the gap from a lap down to 30 seconds to probably at the end we were 9 seconds shy, so that’s good, but the race is not three hours; it’s two and a half hours.
 
“We’re pleased all the way around. We had a good points day. We’ll see how that shakes out when they announce it on Monday. Now on to Road America in two weeks!”

Bodymotion Racing Gets Another Top-Five Finish

BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, Canada, July 9 -The Bodymotion Racing No. 12 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport of Cameron Cassels and Trent Hindman ended up right where it started, fourth in Grand Sport and fourth overall, after two hours and 30 minutes of competition in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge (ICTSC) race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) Saturday afternoon. The entry has never been out of the top five, as it was coming off three consecutive victories in its first three races of the year. 

Cassels, a rookie from Coldstream, British Columbia, Canada who was making his first start at this very fast and very challenging 10-turn, 2.459-mile road course, got a lap down 41 minutes into the race but still retained fourth. Hindman, of Wayside, N.J., got in at about the 48-minute mark and was able to make that lap up by lap 56 with about 1 hour remaining, but a drive-through penalty for a rules violations during a pit stop put the car back a lap down to the leader. With a fourth-place finish secure, Cassels returned to the cockpit for the finish to see the checkered flag and collect the points.

Cameron Cassels: “It was quite a race! It was definitely educational coming here. I learned a lot. I learned a lot more about myself and about car control. This is maybe not the best place to try to learn about car control, but it is what it is. 
 
“It was super greasy. It was the same for everybody; it wasn’t just our four Bodymotion guys complaining about the track surface. We always seemed to be behind the car a bit. We were always trying to figure out where the grip was and how the car would change, and whether it was the tires or the track.
 
“Saying that, for me, I’ll look back at this and remember that I did my personal best in the race. I got down to a 31, so I still have a whole bunch of homework to do but I’m happy to be walking away with that. 
 
“You can’t win them all. There are some things we know we have to work on so we won’t have a repeat of some of the errors we made. But saying that, the guys worked their butts off from the time we unloaded for the test day until the checkered flag. No one gave up. 
 
“At the end we couldn’t gain anything, so I went out to just get a little bit more seat time. I got to see what a checkered flag looks like; usually Trent sees that [as finishing driver]!
 
“At the end the event was a success. I got some good track experience, and we got some experience with this Porsche on this track, so there are a lot of things for us to remember and hold our heads up high. We brought the car home in one piece, and now we’ll get ready for Lime Rock.
 
Trent Hindman: “Sometimes your luck runs out, and today just wasn’t our day, unfortunately. But a big thank you to all the Bodymotion Racing guys for doing their best to bring us back.
 
“We were back on the lead lap for a little while there, but unfortunately we just made a couple mistakes that put us back further behind than we wanted to and out of contention for the win. 
 
“Either way, we’ll learn from the mistakes made here and move forward to Lime Rock. We’ll correct everything that went wrong today, but for the most part these guys really worked hard throughout the weekend. We had a great race car. Sometimes in motorsports things don’t go your way, but again, big thanks to the Bodymotion Racing guys, Cameron Cassels, Continental Tire and Porsche for all their help.”

HINDMAN: Watkins Glen Debrief

Nothing ever ceases to amaze me more than the emotional rollercoaster that is motorsport.

Sometimes, it’s not just day by day or even session to session. Occasionally I find that perspective and attitude can change all within one lap, and that could be the difference between a win, podium, or even finishing a race.

This past weekend at Watkins Glen International was one such weekend, and I’ll be brutally honest here, it was a rollercoaster straight from the start.

The whole Prestige Performance/Wayne Taylor Racing squad was more than ready to get back at it after just about nine weeks off.

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca was the first-ever race in the Blancpain Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Championship for Craig and me, so we were certainly hungry to improve upon some excellent results that we had achieved in the beginning of May.

We both knew that we still had much to learn about the car, and that was our main focus throughout practice.

Unfortunately, there were some fairly lengthy red flags in practice for incidents (which if I’ve heard correctly, all drivers involved were ok) and that really took away from the amount of time we had to set a number and see where the cards fell for us.

At that point, all we could do was focus on building solid balance and making sure we had a car that could run the entire 50-minute race without experiencing any large scale tire degradation; luckily it wasn’t too difficult because of the beautiful new surface at Watkins Glen.

We maintained the same plan as we did at Mazda Raceway. I would qualify and start Race One and finish Race Two.

Qualifying was off to a great start as my teammate Shinya and I battled for pole position, but fortunately the No. 10 Prestige Performance/WTR Lamborghini came out on top!

Craig was in the very same position for the second qualifier, as he continued to find lap time and ultimately put us on the inside of row two for race two.

Race 1 was off to a great start as we took the lead coming out of Turn 1, pulling a little bit of a gap, and maintained that gap for my stint in the car.

The main goal as a starting driver is to go fast, but also preserve the equipment for the finishing stint… a skill I was very fortunate to learn during the 2014 CTSC season with Fall-Line Motorsports and John Edwards.

The Prestige crew executed an excellent driver change and then Craig was off to chase the leaders down. He put together a very solid and consistent race, where we finished 2nd overall and won the Pro-Am class; exactly where we left off at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Unfortunately Race 2 wouldn’t be so nice to us. Early on, just after the drop of the green flag, Craig had reported a soft brake pedal that continued to get worse.

Somehow he hung on to the thing for about four laps until it was time to pit and do our driver change.

As I was getting into the car, he had warned me that something was very wrong and please be careful… I more or less said “to hell with it” and pushed hard straight out of pit lane until, of course, it was time to slow down for the bus stop.

The brake pedal went straight to the floor and never came back. It wasn’t necessarily the worst spot to have this sort of problem, as it is fairly safe to go straight on at the bus stop and make it around turn five without any issues.

At that point I knew that there wasn’t a chance that I could race with that issue unless we could do a quick repair to the car on pit lane, which was not possible as it turned out.

I was fairly bummed that we had this problem, as Craig would have surely been chasing the leaders closely during his stint, giving us the opportunity to fight for the overall victory. Either way, it’s just a part of racing and we will move on.

With that said, a massive congratulations to Shinya and his double win weekend and a huge thank you as well to the entire Prestige Performance/WTR squad for their effort up to, and throughout the weekend.

It is no coincidence that hard work and long hours by everybody results in luck.

So, to round this whole thing up, I call racing an emotional rollercoaster because you can and will experience the extreme highs to the devastating lows all within one day.

For example, this weekend was the second of five total IMSA events where I was, and will be, running back and forth between two cars, two teams, and two championships.

The GS race on Saturday was the third win of the year for Cameron Cassels, Bodymotion Racing, the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport, and myself.

It was only a matter of about two hours between the time we were standing in victory lane with our Porsche to the time I was bringing our Huracan LP620-2 Super Trofeo back to the Prestige trailer with 30 minutes still left to go in the race and no brakes.

That’s the way she goes sometimes…

Bodymotion Racing focuses on the work at hand as it heads to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park with three consecutive victories

OCEAN TOWNSHIP, N.J., July 5, 2016 – Bodymotion Racing is thrilled that it enters Saturday’s IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge (ICTSC) race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) in Bowmanville, Ontario as the winner of the series’ last three races, including last Saturday’s race at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, N.Y.

But the team says it isn’t focused on results or points. Instead, it will continue to concentrate on the work ethic that got it into this enviable position – a dedication to learn and improve as much as possible – and hope the results and the points will continue to follow.
 
Bodymotion, a full-service automotive repair facility headquartered in Ocean Township, N.J., has one Canadian on its driver roster for Saturday’s 2.5-hour race that begins at 12:25 p.m. Eastern time. Rookie Cameron Cassels of Coldstream, British Columbia, shares the team’s No. 12 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport in the Grand Sport (GS) class with Trent Hindman of Wayside, N.J. Cassels hasn’t even seen the 2.459-mile, 10-turn road course formerly known as Mosport before, but Hindman has raced there many times in the past, including winning some events enroute to the 2011 Ontario Formula Ford Championship.
Last Saturday was also a big day for the team’s two drivers who campaign a 2012 Porsche Cayman, No. 31, in the Street Tuner (ST) class, as Jason Rabe of Monticello, N.Y. and Devin Jones of Mooresville, N.C. posted their first podium finish of the season at Watkins Glen. Like Hindman, they competed in this race at CTMP last year too, although they weren’t co-drivers then. Rabe had the best results of the three last year with a seventh-place finish in class, but Jones holds the track record for the ST class when he won the pole with a time of 1:32.626 and an average speed of 95.571 miles per hour. The Bodymotion No. 31 they’re sharing this year carries support from Delaware Investments and VeriStor, among other companies.
After two 45-minute practice sessions at 9:30 a.m. and 1:05 p.m. (EDT) on Friday, qualifying will be held at 5:10 p.m. (ST) and 5:40 p.m. (GS) Friday. Fans can walk the grid at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday before the race starts. It supports the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix presented by Hawk Performance, a WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race on Sunday that is only 10 minutes longer than Saturday’s ICTSC race. 
 
On Sunday morning, July 10, fans can also watch FOX Sports 1’s broadcast of last Saturday’s ICTSC race at Watkins Glen, N.Y. from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. EDT.
 
Fox Sports 1’s broadcast of Saturday’s race at CTMP is scheduled to air Sunday, July 17 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. All times are Eastern.

Q:Do you expect a big crowd of friends and family at CTMP to watch you race? Does it add more pressure to you to race in front of your hometown fans?
“My four children, my brother and his girlfriend, and finally, my niece and nephew along with my wife will be there. Saying that though, I do not expect it to add any more pressure to perform. I will be focused on learning a new track and continuing to drive hard and improving my race craft.”
 
Q: Do you have any ties to the Bowmanville area or Toronto in general? 
“This will be my first time here. We are eager to take in some of the sights in the area. I do have a niece and nephew near Bowmanville.”
Q: Did you celebrate after Watkins Glen, and if so, how? How did your family and friends react to your third consecutive victory?
“It was a very casual celebration with the team immediately after the race and a very quiet evening with my wife. I don’t know how much more excitement my family and friends can take with these thrilling races. Especially this last one; it was a nail biter!”
 
Q: Mosport is one of only three tracks in the world to have hosted Formula 1, Can-Am and IndyCar events. Mosport hosted more Can-Am races than any other track – 24. Do you ever think about the history of the tracks you’re getting to race on? 
“The history surrounding some of the tracks we visit is very humbling. I constantly have to pinch myself as I get to compete on the same tracks as some of the legends of motorsports. Racing at Mosport, in my home country in front of family, just adds to the overall excitement for me.”
 
Trent Hindman:
Q: How many times have you raced at CTMP, what types of cars have you driven here, and how did it go?
“I am very fortunate that we are coming into this weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park with a fair amount of experience and a good understanding of this track. Cam has never been there, but he has been doing an excellent job of being cool and calculated when it comes to learning a new circuit. For me, I spent most of the 2011 season racing with Brian Graham in the Ontario Formula Ford Championship at CTMP, where we were able to win a fair amount of races that ultimately brought us the OFFC championship!”
 
Q: How do you expect the track to suit the Porsche Cayman?
“I believe as a team, we try not to enter these race weekends with any expectation on how we will perform. Our mindset consists of aiming to learn more about our Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport as well as improving ourselves as a team. With that said, I imagine the high-speed, flowing nature of CTMP will suit the solid high-speed balance the Porsche seems to have quite well.”
 
Q: What will be the keys to a victory here?
“Historically with my own experience at CTMP, the keys to a victory will be tire management and good long-run balance. Mosport is a track that isn’t super friendly to any tire, so it is absolutely of the utmost importance to manage our Continental tires correctly to be sure we can fight for a good result at the end of the race.”
 
Q: What are your impressions of the track? Tell us about the speed there.
“Luckily CTMP has always treated me well! It appears to be fairly simple on paper, but in all reality it requires good feel, good car placement, and always a bit of luck to get around there quickly. Most drivers and teams will talk and focus solely on Turn 2 and how insane of a corner it is, but that’s really the nature of the entire track, which is why it is among the favorites for me!”
 
Jason Rabe: 
Q: How many times have you raced at Mosport, what types of cars have you driven here, and how did it go?
“I’ve only raced Mosport once; last year in the ICTSC, the same ST Porsche Cayman. I ran in the top five during my opening stint, and we finished seventh.”
 
Q: Now that you have a podium finish, how has it affected your confidence level?
“We knew podiums were possible before the Watkins Glen performance, but now it reassures us that more podiums are on the way!”
 
Q: What did you do for the Fourth of July celebration? Did you celebrate after Watkins Glen, and if so, how? How did your family and friends react to your first podium finish?
“I enjoyed spectating the WeatherTech six-hour race on Sunday and enjoyed sightseeing in the village of Watkins Glen. We had a dinner celebration after the race with family and friends. It was an emotional celebration at the podium with my mom, dad, sponsors, friends and the entire team!  It was a surreal feeling to have everyone celebrating with me at the birthplace of American road racing!”
 
Q: Do you ever think about the history of the tracks you’re getting to race on? 
“I’m a HUGE racing history buff, so the tracks we get to race on mean a great deal to me. I can probably tell you who drove what cars and who won a lot of the ’70s and ’80s Formula 1, IndyCar, and Can-Am races. I honestly think that ICTSC has the best road-racing schedule in North America!”
 
Devin Jones: 
Q: Now that you have a podium finish, how has it affected your confidence level? 
“The podium finish was huge for our team. We have had some great speed in the car all year and to put it all together with a second-place finish is very rewarding for everyone. We will keep pushing and refocus for Mosport.”
 
Q: Do you have any ties to the Bowmanville area or Ontario in general? 
“I always enjoy traveling north of the border to Mosport. The track is high speed and suits my strengths well. I’m looking forward to jumping back in the car after our strong result at Watkins Glen. We’re looking for one spot better this weekend.”
 
Q: Do you have any other stops you make when in the area? 
“The past two years our family has camped in the infield, which is a lot of fun. We enjoy driving around the track and seeing the Canadian fans, who are always supportive. They love their racing!”

HINDMAN: Monterey Debrief

Three months ago I was completely convinced that I would be a spectator for this season, and now I have just had the opportunity to partake in the busiest weekend of car racing ever in my career.

Pre-race weekend prep for me does not change entirely too much when running two different championships.

A bit more time studying data and video is absolutely necessary, but aside from that it’s business as usual.

The real fun started when the Thursday test day came around, where it was four practice sessions total – two for Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge and two for Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America.

Schedules were tight and I was constantly worried about having enough time to properly debrief with one team then run over to the other and have enough time to cover our plan for the next practice.

Needless to say I was thrilled that I was getting to drive both a Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo and a Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport, but I was most definitely worn out at the end of the day!

The whole crew at Prestige Performance/Wayne Taylor Racing along with the Bodymotion/Cassels Racing team really did their best to accommodate my tight schedule and I really can’t thank either group enough for that!

Qualifying day was much less hectic and I was happy to have some time to review data, video, and even do some driver change practice with my co-drivers in both championships.

Huge shoutout to Craig Duerson and Cameron Cassels for putting up with my constant disappearance from one camp to the other.

In recent times, qualifying day for Continental Tire Challenge has been a day where I don’t drive at all, but a huge positive of running two championships is the simple fact of more seat time.

Fortunately and unfortunately, the first 15 minute qualifier for Super Trofeo Race one was cut short by a red flag about six minutes into the session.

Luckily we were the first car out of pit lane at the start of the session, and that above all else is what gave me the opportunity to have one clear lap to put it on the pole.

Both Super Trofeo races were just one big learning experience for Craig and me. The structure of the series along with the pit lane/drive time rules are very new to both of us, and really we just wanted to keep the car in one piece while we both continue this learning process.

Race 1 was off to a great start and we were able to hold the lead overall throughout my short stint in the car.

Craig hopped in at about the 25-minute mark and had an excellent drive to bring us home 4th overall, 2nd in class – a fantastic way to kick off our season.

Race 2 was definitely a bit more nerve racking for both of us. Craig had qualified 4th in class, 10th overall and had moved up to 8th by the time he came in for our driver change.

Unfortunately we had lost a bit of time on pit lane and that had put us quite a way back from the leaders.

I had no idea at that time, so I just tried my best to do what I always do; put together a smooth, clean stint and drive like hell!

The radio was mostly silent for my stint until it was looking like we really had a shot at catching and passing the leader of the Pro-Am class before the end of the race.

We made the move for the lead with about 5 minutes remaining and we never looked back. That secured the first Super Trofeo win for Craig and me, along with a solid 3rd place finish overall… not bad for a bunch of rookies!

A massive thank you to the entire Lamborghini Paramus/Prestige Performance/Wayne Taylor Racing Team (boy, that’s a lot) for their weeks of hard work in preparing the cars and giving us two seriously great cars for race day.

One pole position, a second place in class, a win in class with an overall podium, and not to mention a second GS win in a row really made this a weekend to remember.

It was a great feeling hopping on the long flight back to New Jersey knowing that all of the hard work and preparation had paid off in a big way this time, but as soon as that flight landed it was back to work figuring out how we will go about achieving these results again.
